History
Sichuan University (SCU) has many predecessors and is one of the earliest institutions of higher education in China. It was established in 1896 and is the earliest modern university in Southwest China. It was called Sichuan Union University when it merged in 1994 and was eventually renamed Sichuan University (SCU) in 1998. In 2000, SCU (Sichuan University) merged with the former West China Medical University to form the new Sichuan University (SCU).
